LONDON – The British Defense Ministry rebuffed media allegations that jet pilots of the Royal Air Forces were given the green light to shoot down – if necessary – Russian jets in Iraqi airspace.
“There is no truth in this story,” the ministry commented in its blog.
Earlier, the British tabloid Daily Star reported citing unnamed military sources that RAF pilots had been given license to shoot down hostile Russian jets in Iraqi airspace.
The Russian Embassy in England requested the UK Foreign Office’s clarifications on the report. The Russian Defense Ministry delivered a note with the same request to the military attaché of the British Embassy in Russia
