Croatia Must Close Green Border With Serbia, Call In Army

ZAGREB – Mate Granic, coordinator of the Croatian president’s operational group for the refugee crisis, said Monday that Croatia must close the green border with Serbia and call in the army.

There are two problematic borders and Croatia does not have much choice if it wants to avoid becoming a hot spot or a collection center – it must close the green borders with Serbia and Montenegro and only let in as many refugees as it can, the former foreign minister of Croatia told the regional N1 TV.

Granic called for top-level talks and voiced opinion that the army should be sent in to protect the border.

Several thousand refugees from the Middle East have spent another night in the open, in the cold and the mud, stranded in a no-man’s land between Serbia and Croatia after Slovenia slowed down the refugee influx into Western Europe.
