Serbia: 25 Percent Of Refugees Are Children

BELGRADE – Children accounted for around 25 percent of the total number of refugees that passed through Serbia until September this year, and five percent of them had no parental escort, it was said on Tuesday at the presentation of a project of the Asylum Protection Center.

β€œIt is estimated that since the beginning of the year, over 300,000 people transited through our country, and from the start of the year to September 1, around 103,000 were registered. Out of the total number of the registered, around 25,500 were children who made up around 25 percent of the total number,” Jana Stojanovic, a psychologist with the Asylum Protection Center, told a news conference at Tanjug Press Center.

There were 5,500-6,000 children without parental escort, and they accounted for 5 percent of the total number of refugees, Stojanovic said.
